About Me
Hi, I’m David Shapiro,
I’m a mental health therapist who specializes in anxiety, depression, and insomnia treatment. I also operate a training and consulting business, called Shapiro Training & Consulting, where I teach other clinicians and organizations how to provide high-quality behavioral health services.
Whether in my counseling practice or in front of a classroom of clinicians, I’m a teacher at heart, helping people grow, learn new skills, and see the world through a different lens. But my work life wasn’t always like this. With a mental health career spanning 25 years, I’ve done a lot. I’ve worked in wonderful places where people’s lives were transformed and others where success was more challenging. Through these stumbles and successes, I learned what empowers people to move beyond their struggles and how important it is to be guided by research and science.
Evidence-Based Treatment
This is what led me to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help people reduce their anxiety and depression because that’s what the research says works best.
Ultimately, I’ve also learned to incorporate CBT, along with mindfulness, in my own life. This means there’s nothing we’ll work on that I haven’t used myself, including practicing kindness and self-compassion. I can promise that, regardless of what brings you to therapy, this will always guide our collaboration.
Qualifications & Training
In addition to years of clinical practice as a licensed social worker, I’ve had extensive training in cognitive and mindfulness-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).
I’m also a certified Master Trainer with 25 years of behavioral health clinical and leadership expertise including counseling, supervision, program management, and the coordination of clinical education.
